Andrea Lawrence Institute for Mountains And Rivers
"I devoted myself to simplicity and returned to it all, left that workaday life for this wisdom of wandering, for this wilderness of rivers - and - mountains clarity."     -     Hsieh Ling-yun

More about Andrea
The Andrea Lawrence Institute for Mountains and Rivers is a non-profit organization that seeks to establish a planning forum to identify key challenges confronting the Eastern Sierra Nevada. The Institute will work to preserve healthy communities and healthy ecosystems, recognizing the inextricable connection that binds both.

"It is my hope that the Institute for Mountains and Rivers will serve as the institutional basis for integrating economic vitality and ecological integrity within the Eastern Sierra."

By providing education to the public that so dearly loves the Eastern Sierra and all it has to offer, the Institute believes that the landscape stands a greater chance of enduring the changes that are already in progress. Through multimedia educational outreach we can better define what is really desireable, sustainable and attainable in our relationship with this delicate ecosystem.

Notice:

Andrea Lawrence and her nonprofit organization ALIMAR will host their first annual award dinner February 2nd at Mammoth Mountain in what promises to be an exciting and interesting evening celebrating “passionate engagement in community and the land.”

The evening will feature a keynote address from H. David Nahai, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. It’s an opportunity to look to the future notes Lawrence, a former Mono County Supervisor: “I’m excited to hearing David Nahai’s vision for the future relationship between Los Angeles and our Eastern Sierra counties.”

Also featured will be presentation of the Andrea Mead Lawrence Award for Passionate Engagement in Community and the Land to Friends of the Inyo. “This is a chance to recognize good work being done on the ground here in the Eastern Sierra,” says Lawrence. “Friends of the Inyo deserves recognition for their outstanding stewardship efforts in both Mono and Inyo counties through meaningful work projects that connect people to the land.”

Lastly, the evening promises dinner and good conversation among friends of the Eastern Sierra.
