Andrea Mead Lawrence, who lives in Mammoth Lakes, served on the Mono County Board of Supervisors for 16 years and has been a persistent and eloquent spokeswoman on behalf of wilderness and environmental preservation in the Eastern Sierra.

She is the only U.S. athlete ever to win two Olympic gold medals in ski racing at a single Olympics (1952).
